Indianapolis is the capital of the Hoosier State and a shining example of the renaissance of the Midwestern "Rust Belt." After relying on manufacturing to grow into the 20th Century, Indianapolis gradually diversified its economy to become a hub for health care and finance. Downtown Indianapolis has also been recognized as one of the most "livable" in the country, with a thriving scene of shops, restaurants and hotels.
Visitors flock to Indianapolis for the many prominent sporting events held in the city. The best known is the Indianapolis 500, held every year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. "Indy" has also hosted the Super Bowl and the Men’s NCAA Basketball championships. Sports is not the city’s only claim to fame, however. There are a number of world-class museums and cultural attractions, including the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, the largest children’s museum in the world.
The city serves as a major transportation hub for both Indiana and the entire region. There are six interstate highways that run through Indianapolis and connect it cities from Chicago to Columbus, Ohio. The Indianapolis International Airport is also an important transit center for FedEx and the US Postal Service.
