Cars for Sale in Anchorage, Alaska

Though Anchorage only has a population of approximately 300,000 people, it is still the largest municipality in the state of Alaska. It sits in the southern part of the state, right at the end of the Cook Inlet. Anchorage is perfectly suited as a hub of international travel because it sits within 9.5 flying hours to 9/10 of the rest of the industrialized world. Because of its northerly latitude, Anchorage experiences a cold climate in general. The average high in the summer gets up to roughly 65 degrees, while the average low in the winter can reach a solid twenty degrees below freezing. This cold climate also produces an average of 115 precipitation days each year, with more than 82 annual inches of snow. In spite of this, Anchorage only receives an annual 16 inches of precipitation, surprisingly low given its snowy averages.

The presence of various Pacific Island cultures leads to substantial linguistic diversity in the city. The Anchorage School District accounts for 94 languages as of 2006. Economically, Anchorage relies heavily on transportation and military operations for its revenue. Due to its convenient location for international travel, Anchorage's airport is the third busiest in the world for cargo traffic. FedEx considers the city to be a major hub and a reason the company can conduct overseas operations. Though BRAC proceedings forced the city to consolidate three of its military bases, the joint base currently still employs 8,500 people.

Alaska does field one professional sports team: the Alaska Aces of the ECHL. It is most well-known for hosting the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race every year, though it does also host the annual Fur Rendezvous Open World Championship Sled Dog Races each year several weeks before the Iditarod. Beyond sports, another entertainment option in Anchorage is the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. This 3,000 person facility hosted almost 700 public performances in 2000, which brought in almost a quarter million visitors.
