Since its introduction in the fall of 1960 as a 1961 model, the Ford E-Series retains its position as one of the most versatile vehicles in the automaker's truck lineup. The Ford E-250 (3/4 ton) cargo van is available in regular or Super Duty extended length body styles.
For 2008, the E-250 cargo van receives a series of updates, enhancements and modifications, made to the entire E-Series lineup –- starting with an all-new F-Series Super Duty-inspired front end design. Chassis improvements include a revised steering system, as well as revisions to the front and rear suspension, designed to improve driving dynamics and braking performance. Load carrying capability was increased and engine-only traction control is now available across the model line.
Engine choices include the Triton 4.6L V8 or 5.4L V8. Torque is communicated to the pavement through a four-speed automatic overdrive and tow/haul mode. On the road, the E-250 with the optional 5.4L V8 is extremely responsive. Handling and control are much improved over the previous model with better ride quality.
The E-250 cargo van rides on a full-frame body-on-chassis platform. A re-engineered front suspension utilizes an all-new geometry and larger sway bars to provide a better stance and firmly plant the front end on terra firma. New valve technology on the rear shock absorbers further enhances the E-Series ride and handling, while upgrades to the steering system provide a better on center feel and reduced steering efforts, adding to the feeling of confidence.
Inside, the driver is treated to a vast outward view of the road. Displays and controls are large and easy to read. A redesigned deluxe engine cover console includes dual-bin storage, four cupholders, coin slots, ashtray and a cellular phone holder.
