Better than Ever: 2018 Ford F-150 Pickup Truck
The Ford F-150 pickup truck is tougher, smarter and more capable than ever for 2018. New features include standard Auto Start-Stop for all engines. Major exterior freshening across lineup includes new grilles, bumpers, lighting, tailgate outer, appliqués and wheels. The full-size Ford pickup truck is available in Regular, SuperCab and SuperCrew cab configurations; 5.5, 6.5 and 8.0 foot cargo box sizes; and XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited trim levels.
Power is generated by a second-generation 2.7L EcoBoost V6; an all-new 3.3-liter V6 with port and direct-injection technology and flex-fuel capability; 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6; and an enhanced 5.0L V8 featuring advanced dual port and direct-injection technology as well as spray-on bore liner technology. Torque is communicated to the wheels through an electronic six-speed automatic transmission with selectable drive modes – normal, tow/haul and sport. The optional (standard on 2.7L EcoBoost) electronic ten-speed automatic features selectable drive modes – normal, tow/haul, snow/wet, eco-select and sport. All-wheel drive is an available option. The FX4 off-road package can be added to most four-wheel-drive models, improving trail capability with an electronic locking rear axle, skid plates and off-road-tuned shocks.
Billed as the “Toughest F-150 Ever”, the F-150 features a fully boxed ladder frame with more high-strength steel than ever to make it stronger yet lighter. High-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloys are used throughout the F-150 body. These alloys, already used in aerospace, commercial transportation and other industries, make the pickup truck’s body lighter, stronger and more resistant to dents.
Inside the passenger cabin, Ford engineers and designers included a long list of onboard features that offer capabilities never before realized in a full-size pickup. Included for the first time in an F-150 are a remote opening tailgate, LED headlights, LED cargo box lights, and extensive on-the-job and at-play amenities. The interior was created with comfort and utility in mind, right down to the buttons and controls that are sized so that a person wearing work gloves can operate them.
To help drivers maintain a close eye on the truck’s many systems, the instrument panel has an eight-inch productivity screen featuring computer-generated graphics and customizable information. The speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and amp meter are fully computer-generated, and the driver can choose additional screens for a specific use such as towing or off-roading. The driver also can configure the locations and colors of the individual instruments.
The Ford F-150 features a high-power inverter with two available 110-volt 400-watt outlets in the dash and second-row center console in SuperCab and SuperCrew models. These outlets are perfect for recharging power tools or running electrical equipment on the job site, and their central location keeps them secure and easily accessible from any side of the truck.
